PEACE AND GOODWILL
Peace and Goodwill are principles proclaimed by one of the oldest songs of the Christmas season.
The traditional rendering that many of us will hear in carols and cards says, “Peace on earth, Good Will to men”.
During this festive time, many of us will focus on Santa Claus, elves, flying reindeer, sleigh and jingle bells, colorful lights, gift giving, gatherings, snowmen, fireplace stockings, eggnog, decorating trees, fruit cake, mistletoe, the Grinch, preparing for a new Year, and so much more.
In the midst, of all the trappings of the holiday season, it can be easy to forget to give, and share, Peace and Good Will with others.
The original focus was not on the shepherds’ visit, nor the wise men’s journey across the desert.
The message that was delivered for humanity was to encourage them of a new era approaching, and it can also serve as a charge for us to keep with one another. Peace and Goodwill.
What is meant by Peace and Goodwill?
These two terms aren’t directly related to one another, yet they are indirectly related.
Let’s examine Peace. Peace references a freedom from disturbances.
We deal with so many disturbances in our daily life. Some personal, and some global.
War and other kinds of destruction seemed to have taken complete control over the world.
Peace and Goodwill are the only hope that every nation has right now, considering the current situation.
Even though there might not be an actual war going in the world per se, the constant terrorist attacks and political conflicts have become major life threats for society.
Peace is needed not only outwardly, but also inwardly as well.
The events around us we cannot control, but we do have a say in what we allow to affect us.
We need more kindness, goodness, and compassion. That’s where you and I come in.
The hatred towards people in today’s time has become much stronger than love for one another. This is what threatens world peace at large.
People all over the world are fighting. For many of us the fight is with the COVID-19.
Sickness and death are everywhere. The loss of lives has affected us all.
There is hardly any peace and goodwill, because of all the struggles and sufferings that we are going through regularly.
A world without peace can leave you feeling helpless, lonely, abandoned, and scared.
The fear of loss hinders and affects not only self peace but also world peace.
If we carefully take a close look at everything that has been happening lately, the only thing we would notice is the disruption of peace.
Without Peace it is tough to offer Goodwill. Another definition of Peace is whole, sound.
If we can get ourselves at peace/whole/sound/balanced/healed, then the world would be at peace.
When I am at peace, and you are at peace, then together we can offer goodwill to others.
Real peace begins with inner peace. Make sure we forgive those whom we believe have wronged us so that we can have self/inner peace.
It can be easier to offer goodwill to strangers, and tougher to offer it to offenders.
To Have Peace, we must Offer Peace, and try to Live in Peace.
This is what will bring forth Good Will to ALL men.
This is a Thompson Truth
