SCRABBLE SCRAPPING
I’d image that most of us, are pretty familiar with the ever-popular board game, called Scrabble, which turned 90 years old in 2021.
There are those who love it, like President Barak Obama, President Bill and Hilary Clinton, Martha Stewart, and the Queen of England, Elizabeth II.
There are even some countries that have declared it to be an official sport.
Someone also made a Scrabble song. No kidding. Look it up.
And there are also those who hate it, like, a lot of people. No song. No game.
It just depends upon who you talk to.
Here’s the backstory of the game.
During the Great Depression of the 1930’s, an unemployed New York architect by the name of Alfred Butts figured that folks could use a distraction from all the doom and gloom that was going on in the world at that time.
That part sounds a bit familiar, doesn’t it?
So, he decided to create a board game, that combined both skill and speed.
He drew the board, and every game tile piece, using his architectural equipment. Hence the structured look of everything.
For more than a decade he tried and failed to sell the idea of his new game.
He first called the game, “It”, then “Lexiko”, short for Lexicon, then “Criss-Cross Words”. But all were unsuccessful. No one wanted any part of it.
Then in 1948, James Brunot joined as a business partner and changed the name to Scrabble, which means “to scratch or scrape” and “to scrawl”.
Our Thompson Truth today is called Scrabble Scrapping, as in scrapping for the victory.
Those who play, play for the victory.
You see, Scrabble is a WORD game, and ironically enough, Faith, is also a WORD game.
When the world used the word - DEPRESSION to Alfred Butts, he used the “I” in that word and spelled INVENTION.
The world spelled the word QUIT; again, Alfred used the “U” to spell the word UNRELENTING.
These same lessons can be applied to FAITH.
Likewise, the devil used the WORD on Jesus. He certainly knew the WORD and gave it back quickly to the devil.
The devil came to tempt Jesus using the word ABUSE, but Jesus knows more word, so he used the “S” and responded by spelling the word SUBMIT, as in SUBMIT TO GOD.
The devil came a second time to Jesus and tried him with the word PRIDE, but Jesus responded quickly again, using the “P” to spell the word PRAISE GOD.
The devil tried a third time using the word FOLLOW ME, Jesus had enough of this foolishness and spelled the word FLEE, as in FLEE FROM ME FOOL.
You see, sometimes we try to outsmart the devil when we should simply say to him “Boy Bye” or “FLEE”.
We must be quick to respond with the WORD of God when we hear things.
When the devil comes to us and uses the word SICK, we should bust his game right up and use the word WE ARE HEALED BY THE STRIPES OF JESUS!
When the devil comes again to us, and uses the word LACK, we should give him more word, NO GOOD THING WILL MY FATHER WITHHOLD FROM ME!
When the devil comes to us using the word DEFEATED, we should give him back LET THE WEAK SAY THAT I AM STRONG!
Of course, the devil will come to us and say that we aren’t playing fair.
That’s his job as the accuser. We should expect that from him.
The devil’s word is always negative. God’s word is always positive.
This is a WORD world, God made it with His WORD, and the devil wants us to use the worlds words, but we are Gods, and we shall use Gods WORD.
It’s time we start Scrabble Scrapping with the devil. It’s time to WORD UP!
