YOU’LL BELIEVE ANYTHING Part 2 - The Pursuit of Better

How much do you think one of your thoughts is worth? Just take a guess.

I know that seems like an odd question to ask, but just think about it for a moment. What value would you place on one of your thoughts? Or what if I said it this way, What do you think it is worth to control what you think?

To get a better idea of what a thought is worth we need to first understand it in terms of quantity, then perhaps we can better qualify its value.

Do you know what the speed of thought is for a human mind? Neither did I until I looked it up. The human brain can process 11 million bits of information per second.

In laymen’s terms that’s a lot of stuff that runs through our mind in a single second. To process 11 million bits of information per second, we must think more than just 11 million thoughts per second, because it takes several hundred thoughts just to process one single thought.

No, this is not a math class. I just want to give us an idea of how much we think about in an average second. 11 million bits of information per second.

Wonder how all that information gets processed? Going back to what we talked about last time, we have at least 2 minds. The conscious mind and the unconscious mind or subconscious.

Our conscious mind processes information at a rate of speed in the range of 100-150 miles per hour. We all know that anything traveling at a speed of 100 – 150 miles per hour moves really fast.

Likewise, our unconscious minds are moving fast as well. It travels at a rate of 100,000 m.p.h. Wow! Now that’s almost lightning fast. The speed of light travels at 186,000 miles per second.

Like we said last time, our unconscious mind, or subconscious is where the real magic happens. That’s the area that everyone is vying for.

The world’s advertising behemoths will pay millions of dollars for just a couple of seconds of your subconscious thoughts. As an example, a Super Bowl ad averages around 8 million dollars for a 30 second ad. It pays to think!

I’ve said all this to prove that our thoughts have great value.

If others place this much value on our thoughts, then why wouldn’t we? Things of value you protect. We should be protecting our thoughts.

There are many who believe that you cannot control what thoughts come into your mind. But that’s simply not true.

If it were true then God wouldn’t have said “Whatever is truthful, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable, anything that has excellence in it, or that is praiseworthy, think on these things” Philippians 4:8

This shows us that God clearly wants us to choose our thoughts, and not let them be chosen by something or someone else. Don’t let your mind be used as a playground when it was intended to secure your valuables.

We must see our mind and thoughts like a national treasure that must be protected. We are the nation, and our thoughts are that valuable treasure.

We need to secure that treasure. We need to secure our thoughts. We need to make them safe. God’s thoughts are the only safe thoughts. We need the same security system that God has. No one breaks into heaven.

Thoughts of doubt, unbelief, self-sufficiency, pride, unforgiveness, hate, fear, and the like, will steal our treasure. We need to keep out “robber thoughts” like I can’t, I won’t, the list of all the reasons why not me”

Gods Holy Spirit is the Secret Service.

The only way we can secure our thoughts with Gods security system is by thinking on the things of God. The way we program our thoughts to think on the things of God is by inundating ourselves with God’s Spirit through prayer, reading the Bible, music, conversations, gatherings, fellowships, messages, podcasts, books, etc. Anything that relates to God we should be employing it into our life.

Keep this Book on your lips, meditate on it day and night, then shall your way be prosperous. Joshua 1:8

When we constantly build up our own spirit with Gods Spirit our thoughts are protected, they are safe and secure.

In our Pursuit of Better our minds must be transformed. Many people believe that if you transform your life then you will transform your thinking. It’s the other way around, first you must transform your mind, and then your life will follow suit.

“…be transformed by the renewing of your mind” Romans 12:2

Many of us were born into this world headfirst.

Where your mind goes your life will follow.
