HEALTHY LIFESTYLE HABITS Part One – Your Core
Our lifestyles can obviously vary from person to person. But we also know, it can vary within each of us, from season to season. Depending upon the season we are in, our lifestyle might be different. Our style of living reflects the events and patterns in our life. We each have a wide variety of factors and habits that play a vital role: what we eat, what we drink, our level of exercise, how well we sleep, how well we manage stress and adapt to stressful situations, our behavior and how we interact with people, our sense of belonging, and our purpose in life. All these can affect how we live our life. They also affect how we think and how we see life in general; our attitude dictates our choices.
It has been said that 1/4 of longevity is due to heredity and genetics, while the other 3/4 is the result from consequences of our beliefs, attitudes, coping skills and lifestyles. Having and maintaining a healthy and balanced lifestyle is our own responsibility. By maintaining a balanced lifestyle, we are increasing our chances of living a significantly longer, better, and happier life.
A balanced lifestyle is the cornerstone of your well-being, and it encompasses things like developing and maintaining good physical health, maintaining a good level of energy, enjoying emotional and psychological stability, having harmonious relationships, feeling and expressing your love toward people and life, developing effective stress management strategies and coping skills, achieving stability, as well as developing a sense of purpose and meaning in life.
A spiritual perspective gives a sense of belonging and purpose to a life that otherwise might be unexplainable. One may experience success in many areas of their life, but without a sense of belonging and purpose, we often continue to feel unsatisfied. Deep inside, you feel that something of extreme importance is still missing, but often we cannot figure out what it is; yet we feel a deep almost painful longing. We feel it in the very core of our being, our spirit.
Clearly, we are the masters of our own health and well-being. And balance is the key. This year consider rearranging the priorities and make our spirit a priority when striving for a balanced lifestyle. Don’t forget to tune in next week for part 2 of A Balanced Lifestyle, as we begin this new decade.
This is a Thompson Truth.
