DISCRIMINATED BY gRACE

When some hear the word Discrimination, it can evoke really strong emotions. Especially if you are of a certain age, race, gender, ethnicity, nationality, ability/disability, or have had a particular life experience that you feel aligns with that word.

Discrimination is defined as the process of making a prejudicial distinction. A type of preference if you will!

Simply put, discrimination takes place when someone or something has been pre-judged.

As for Grace, it’s usually associated with a religious connotation. But the word Grace just simply refers to the act of receiving something that was not earned, compensated for, nor that you were entitled to. Grace is a Gift. Each of us has a Grace Case on file. Whether we felt we deserved it or not, we have all received Grace in our life. Why? Grace aint Fair!

It too is a type of discrimination and or preferential treatment.

So, then today’s message is really about “Gracial Discrimination”.

Just a heads up if you plan to look this phrase up, you won’t find it, because I was just inspired to call it that here for you today.

Discrimination typically has a negative overtone attached to it, but that doesn’t always have to be the case. We tend to think of Discrimination as something that is against us, but what if it was used for us? When it works for us, it’s called Favor. Which also comes from the same original word as Grace. Now do you see why I call it Gracial Discrimination!

But just because we receive free Grace does not mean that we are void of any responsibility for it. In fact, our responsibility increases since we received something that we did not pay for, nor earn. At a minimum, we owe something to the gift of Grace. There are also some who feel there should be an additional responsibility owed to the Gifter.

God discriminated for us, and prejudged us, out of all his creations, as the ones to whom he would give the gift of choice. Choice is a Discriminatory Gift!

Dictionary.com offers these synonyms for Discrimination: perception, acumen, taste, and discernment.

Note that none of these synonyms are inherently negative or bad. But the one that intrigues me most as a man of faith is “discernment”.

Fundamentally speaking, Discernment is the ability to have good judgement. And who does not need that?

How many bad choices have we made because of bad judgement!

Whether it was a relationship, a perceived opportunity, a business or personal decision, or just a choice between options. Whatever the case was, good judgement certainly would have been a welcome tool to have in the toolbox during the time of decision making.

Discernment helps us with insight through foresight by recognizing the consequences of a decision that we are considering making.

Insight through foresight but before hindsight! How great would that be!

That reminds me of a previous Truth I shared, Hindsight Foresight. HINDSIGHT FORESIGHT — Benton T. Thompson III (bentonthompsoniii.com) check it out.

Discernment has historically been an unbelievably valuable trait for one to possess, given that it helps to avoid costly mistakes or misfortunes.

Discernment is referenced in the Bible as a gift from God. So then why wouldn’t we take advantage of a gift that we so desperately need? In fact, it is literally called “The Gift of Discernment”.

The reason the gift comes from God is because He is the only one that knows the future.

This gift is not a learned skill or ability that one can acquire, that’s why it is a gift. This gift is the gift of perspective.

Discernment is a God Perspective of things. Why would I need that, you might ask. Because we were told by Isiah, that God’s thoughts are not our thoughts, His thoughts are higher, deeper, and more insightful than ours. Show of hands for all who want better insight!

All of Gods gifts are his way of enabling us to do better and be better at the things we have been called to do. In other words, His Gifts help us to fulfill Our Purpose. See other gifts he has available in 1 Corinthians 12.

The Greek for Discernment is Diakrisis. Notice the suffix Krisis, or common day word Crisis. Diakrisis helps us in a crisis with the ability to discern, judge, or appraise a person, a statement, a situation, or an environment to see the motives, or the motivation behind the act or offer that is being presented. Now that is some serious Peeps!

In the spiritual realm, motives relate to the intention and purpose that drives an action. That is an unseen force, which is spirit in nature.

The Gift of Discernment provides us with the ability to understand or know the spirit behind an action or offer. More simply, See in the Spirit.

Again, that’s why this gift comes from God, He is the Chief Spirit who knows every spirit. God can tell us whether the influencer behind the offer is of God, the trickster, today’s culture, or the god of “I” or “Self”.

We hear a lot about know your “WHY”, but it is equally important to know the “WHO”. Who are you partnering with on this decision.

Gods Gift of Discernment provides us with a way to give the spirit a test to see where they stand. Want to know more?

Just like the infomercials that we see and hear about, all you have to do is just request your free gift.
