HARD TO BELIEVE
We’ve likely all heard it said, I just find that HARD TO BELIEVE.
Maybe we’ve even said it to ourselves a time or two, or at the very least we might have thought about it.
Is it HARD TO BELIEVE? Well, let’s look and see what we can find out.
Of course, we know there’s a lot to be considered when looking at this polarizing statement.
You’d have to consider the person or persons involved, the situation, the circumstance, the timing, and most importantly what is being Believed for.
I personally have had times that I wanted to believe or wished that I could have believed more than I did, but despite my best efforts, I still found it HARD TO BELIEVE.
Maybe you’ve had that same thing happen to you before, where you found it Hard to Believe for or in something?
Whatever the case might have been, I think it’s worth pointing out, that if someone finds it Hard to Believe in something, it doesn’t necessarily mean they don’t believe, or that they don’t want to believe.
It’s just HARD TO BELIEVE, but not impossible.
It’s also worth noting that Beliefs are rarely formulated in reason. Which is to say that Beliefs usually don’t have evidence to back them up.
Hence, that’s why the battle ensues in our mind between Beliefs vs Facts.
Believing becomes harder after you have believed in something, and you were disappointed because you did not receive that which you were believing in.
Likewise, the reverse of this is also true. When you have received something that you were believing in or for, then believing again the next time comes just a little bit easier.
Many of our beliefs were developed and formed during our childhood years, by our parents, or other authority figures in our life.
As children we were predisposed to believe whatever our parents told us, and as adults we are inclined to believe whatever the “authorities” tell us.
In today’s climate the authorities are saying a lot of things that can make it Hard to Believe.
Not only a belief in God, but also a belief to just live. A belief that we will survive our current predicaments.
We hear about our demise from disease, rising unemployment, increase in murders, Global warming, world wars, deadly meteor showers, Recession, Depression, Inflation, Deflation, all the while, death tolls are rising everywhere.
This can make it hard to believe in anything, except for our total and complete annihilation.
Unfortunately, we can be swayed so easily by individuals or ideas that’s seem to be based on logic or facts.
Again, we must remember that Beliefs are not Facts, and Facts are not Beliefs.
Faith requires us to Believe without Facts, while Data requires Facts before Believe anything.
I want to offer 3 reasons why sometimes we can find it Hard to Believe.
#1 Sometimes it’s Hard to Believe because of Belief Confirmation Bias.
That’s when we tend to only believe things that line up with our biases, viewpoints, and prejudices. We Believe what we Think.
The Bible speaks of this very truth, “As a man thinketh, so is he.”
#2 At other times it can be Hard to Believe due to Belief Preservation. That’s when we cannot, or will not, receive anything new. No new information, no new revelation. We will fight anything, or anyone, to preserve our old way of doing and thinking.
#3 Lastly, sometimes we can find it Hard to Believe when we have Belief Disillusion. That’s when we believe that we completely understand something so well that we can fully explain it. Down to the very last detail.
Remember Beliefs cannot be proven, they must just be believed without proof.
So where does all this leave us, you might ask?
IN GODS’ HANDS!
You see, God knows us. He has seen this from humanity since the very beginning of time.
In our next session we’re going to look at how others have found it Hard to Believe and what was their resolve.
Until then pray, GOD SHOW ME! And he most certainly will, as he always has.
This is a Thompson Truth
