HAVE I SINNED?

Sin. Have I Sinned? If so, when did I Sin? How did I Sin?

These are all legitimate questions one might ask.

Especially for someone who is focused on gaining more insight into God and perhaps even considering a closer relationship with him.

We have been told that Sin is the cornerstone issue that exists between man and God. We’re told we cannot have a close relationship with him because of our Sin. But,  I personally haven’t heard someone give a simplistic and easily comprehensible understanding of what Sin is.

In order to honestly answer whether or not I have sinned, I must have a full understanding of what Sin is.

Here is my attempt to share with you; What is Sin?

I received an understanding of SIN, through an acronym.

The “S” is for Separation

Sin usually takes place when we are away from others; those whom we trust for good advice.  When we are isolated, either in actuality or in our thoughts. We are separated from family, friends or trusted sources.

The “I”  is for Information.

During our time of separation and isolation we receive some information. Something is presented to us that we had not previously considered, or if so, we declined it before, but now it has come back to us again to reconsider. Tempting, taunting, inviting us, to give something we would not normally considered a try. We sense this information is a bit sketchy, but we are considering it nonetheless.

The “N” is for Non-compliance.

When we were separated and received some sketchy information we then were given a choice. A choice to either continue to comply with what had previously been our standard of truth and rightness or to succumb to the change and go with this new and somewhat sketchy idea that has come to us. Let’s say we decided to choose Non-compliance. When we make that final decision to be non-compliant to hold fast to the truths we know have been foundational for us, simply put, this is when We Sin.

Here is a statement of truth that I believe best explains Sin.

“If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn't do it, it is sin for them.”

Sin is not an act, but rather a defiant mindset that causes you to act, in a particular manner that you previously deemed wrong or incorrect.

Here is an example of the first sin on record. A young man was contemplating on killing his brother because he gave a better gift than he did.

Hear what he was told;

“If you desire to do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it”

S.I.N.

During Separation, in comes counter Information, and then we choose Non-compliance and override previously held standards of known truths.

So back to the original question. Have I Sinned? MY answer is Yes. Every time I exercise my free will to do what I know is not the right thing to do, I Sin.

But Hope is not lost.

God sent his son to be the propitiation or substitute for our collective sins. We can still be CLOSE to him. Thank God!

So with that we must Go and Sin no more.

This is a Thompson Truth.
