LIFE BALANCE
Balance, is something that we hear a lot about.
Balance your life. Balance your time. Balance your work. Balance you’re eating habits. Balance your emotions. Balance your health. Balance your relationships.
When some people speak of life balance, they refer to time management. I want to talk about the balance of your life in terms of three individual parts of you that operate interdependently. The total you! The whole you! Body, Mind and Spirit.
The part of your being known as The Body, focuses on areas that directly affect it. Such as eating, sleeping, breathing, temperature changes, activity, physical pain, discomfort or pleasure. That’s why we eat, exercise and get massages. I know this seems obvious, but I’m going somewhere.
The part of your being known as The Soul, focuses on areas of mental abilities like logic, emotions, memory, thoughts, intellect, perception, reasoning, and desires. Words can bruise your soul, but not your body. Our Soul, sits and ponders the day, the week ahead, the years gone by, past relationships and our responsibilities. The Soul is the conscious part of us.
What about The Spirit of your being? What does it crave? It’s neither logical, nor emotional. Your spirit doesn’t worry about things, that’s what your soul does. Think of your spirit as air. What does air need? What gives air delight? Picture a flame on a candlestick, flickering and dancing, round and round, as the air moves it back and forth. The air is happy because it is free. When a glass is placed over the candle, then the flame goes out. The air flow was just cut off. The air has been separated from more air.
Sometimes, we define ourselves based on our body. Other times, we define ourselves based on our emotions or thoughts. Our Spirit, much like the air, loves to be lifted up towards the heavens. Our Spirit needs to connect with spiritual things. When that happens, then we’ll feel whole. Then we’ll feel balanced.
This is a Thompson Truth.
