THE HUMANITY OF GOD - HIS MIND
Quite often throughout the Bible we see God referred to in Human terms.
He is regularly depicted as having human physical characteristics such as eyes, as in the Eyes of God, or the Hands of God, and the Arm of God, etc. He is also displayed as having human emotional characteristics like love, hate, anger, and jealousy. As well as having human actions like touching, feeling, walking, and smelling.
This was all done by design. Allow me to show you more.
The word used to describe God through human characteristics, intentions, behaviors, and emotions is Anthro-po-morhism. Anthropomorphism
It is the composed of 2 Greek words, the first word Anthro relates to man, like Anthropology. The second word, Morphe, refers to being formed like, or morphed into.
In other words, Formed Like a Man, or what I call The Humanity of God.
God became like us, so that we could become like him!
While the Bible does say that God has features like us, we must remember that God’s face, hands, arms, etc. are not human, and we should not limit our understanding of who he is by these human-like features.
God is Spirit and while these human characteristics are used to describe his actions, we must not reduce Him to human capabilities through His actions.
This depiction of God with human features is by design to help us to understand Who He Is. To get to know his nature and character on a more personal level. Not to see him as some giant ancient mystic in the sky, but rather as Abba, Our Father God.
God wants us to know that there are things that he would never do, as well as the things he will always do.
He will never leave us forsaken, and he will always love us unconditionally.
He wants us to know this about him. To be certain of who he is.
With every human characteristic, action, and emotion we were made to be like God!, not something or someone else.
Let me say that again differently. God didn’t make you to be like anyone else but Him. WE ARE GOD, (in spiritual embodiment) GOD IS US.
We have a mind and thoughts because God has a mind and thoughts. We are created in his image.
We have a mind, but God has a mastermind.
Gods mind is both brilliant and creative, one that imagined galaxies, stars, planets, and innumerable solar systems.
A mind that filled the heavens and the earth, which he created, with all types of life and beauty in them.
The Mind of God both Remembers a lot of things, as well as he Forgets a lot of things.
Gods mind is not like our mind, God thoughts are not like our thoughts.
The adult human mind has only an attention span of about 20 minutes. Our fast-paced life and total reliance on technology are to blame for the limited ability to retain much. A few years ago, we could stay focused for at least 30 minutes or longer. But today we are on a downward spiral.
Our short-term memory has also suffered, it is only good for around 20 seconds, and we can’t retain any more than six things in total.
It is reported that left-handed people have better memories than their right-handed counterparts.
Most of our memories are from the ages of 15 and 25 years old.
All of this is in stark contrast to our overall storage capacity, which is around 2.5 million gigabytes. By comparison the most robust computer in the world has only 10,000 gigabytes of storage. That’s a bunch more unused storage capacity we have.
Even still we are true light weights when compared to the Mind of God.
Gods’ memory storage is infinite. He could remember everything if he chose to, but he decides to forget some things.
God has chosen to remember every promise that he has ever made to every person since the dawn of time.
God remembers and will keep the promises that he made to a family more than 40,000 years ago according to Deuteronomy 7, which says that he will keep his promise to 1000 generations.
That is quite a bit longer than we could even possibly remember. But God remembers, all because he promised he would.
God has also chosen to remember every hurt that we have ever received, in fact he bottles up every tear that we cry, so that he will not forget what happened to us.
God remembers each person’s by name, all 117 billion that were born on planet earth and still counting.
God has a beautiful, wonderful, unfailing mind even when he forgets.
You see when God forgets something its because he chose to forget it. God chooses to forget things that he doesn’t want to remember.
God chooses to forget the sins that we committed and asked for forgiveness.
He chooses to forget the unlovely, the unpleasant, the ugly things that have happened, while still choosing to remember to throw them as far from us as the East is from the West according to Psalm 103.
God chooses to forget all the times we doubted him, he gives us more grace.
God chooses to forget all our past failures; everyday he gives us new mercies.
God chooses to forget everything we said or did that would cause him not to love us with an everlasting love.
God chooses to forget the worst of us and decides to remember the best in us.
It is important to note that while God has human attributes it does not make Him human. Again, God does this just so we can understand Him better, but we must never use those attributes to define Him.
We should always stand in awe at the magnificence, grace, and majesty of God. He is greater than any description we could use, bigger and more amazing than any knowledge we could ever learn about him, and far beyond anything our finite imaginations can ever fathom about him.
He is GOD and there is none greater!
There are several human emotions that that God has that we should model after him. Like being merciful, kind, gracious, forgiving, tolerant, compassionate, longsuffering, and most important of all, LOVING!
These are all inherent traits of who God is. They are His nature.
We should all strive to have The Humanity of God.
