THE HUMANITY OF GOD - HIS EARS
In our last talk we spoke about how the Bible frequently depicts God in human terms. That’s called anthropomorphism, which is the attribution of human characteristics or behaviors to God or other things.
Some think that God has no humanity because of all the suffering, violence, starvation, abuse, war, illness, or other such evils which exist in the world. But that simply isn’t true. God feels what we feel. When we hurt, he hurts. He has a better plan for us than we are currently experiencing.
That plan began with our creation. We were created in the image of God.
God wants us to be like him! If we were truly like him, the world would be in a much better place. Well, how can we be more like God? I’m glad you asked.
That is the purpose of this series on The Humanity of God, to show us how.
Previously we looked at how the mind of God is similar and yet unlike the mind of man. I referenced some human emotions that God displays that we should also try and immolate. If we have the same mindset as God, we’d be better to one another. THE HUMANITY OF GOD - HIS MIND — Benton T. Thompson III (bentonthompsoniii.com)
Today we will be examining another feature in The Humanity of God’s nature that we can all relate to, In The Ears.
There are many places in the Bible that reference the Ears of God, or his capacity to hear.
It was very important to God that we have ears because he has ears. God’s ears are not constructed like our human ears are constructed.
God wants us to hear what he hears. God wants us to hear like he hears.
He wants us to have everything that he has. Stop, let me back that up.
GOD WANTS UP TO HAVE EVERYTHING THAT HE HAS! If we could only remember one thing, this would be it.
GOD WANTS UP TO HAVE EVERYTHING THAT HE HAS!
Ears, many think are those bendy tissue type appendages that are on the sides of our heads. They are a part of the ear, but they are not the ear.
Our ear is on the inside of us. Because that’s where we should focus our hearing. We should be listening on the Inside.
Our human or natural ear has 4 main functions. To Hear, To Stabilize, To Detect, and To Filter.
The #1 purpose for our ear is to Hear, which means to capture and store the vibrations and frequencies that are being emitted in the environment around us and then transmit those signals to our minds to be processed for action.
The #2 purpose for the natural ear is to assist in stabilizing us, by adjusting our movements, and to help in determining direction like a compass or an altimeter on a plane, which doesn’t let you get too high are too low. Our ear is meant to balance our equilibrium, keep us on point and on track so that we can reach the destination.
Detection, #3 function in the human ear is designed to help differentiate between sources. To know which sounds are coming from where or whom. Who said that? I’ve written a great resource to help with that. How to Hear God - Book — Benton T. Thompson III (bentonthompsoniii.com)
The final function, #4, to Filter for the purpose of sorting and sifting through all the sounds we hear. As we filter, we can reduce the interference of the degrading and competing signals and discern the truth of our resolve. Filtering the noise from the valuable instructions so that we can Hear, Stabilize, and Detect what we should really be doing.
I’m sure that you noticed that all the functions listed above that apply to the natural ear also have great value for our spirit too. That’s where God comes in, he is Spirit.
God’s ears are on the inside of him as well. His ears have the same 4 functions as do ours, Hear, Stabilize, Detect, Filter, expect they are coupled along with 4 C’s.
Gods Ears Hear with Compassion. Every sound that comes from every person is heard through the ear canal of His tender mercies. He hears everyone’s cry.
Gods Ears Stabilize with Care. He personally knows the weariness of the woes of mankind. Jesus told him. He is attentive to bring us the balance we need.
Gods Ears Detect with Concern. When we are sincere, God hears. That’s why it is important to be honest before God. God prefers honesty over etiquette.
Gods Ears Filter without Condition. It does not matter who you are, where you were, what you did, God will hear yoxcu because you were created by him.
What if we heard other people the way God does?
People like our family, our enemies, those who don’t look like us, those that don’t act like us, those who don’t talk like us, or worship like us.
Would we hear them with Compassion, Care, Concern? Could we love them Unconditionally?
We want God to fix the world’s problems, but that’s why He created us.
We were created to help each other, that’s why the Lord said let us make mankind in Our image. We are the help from God that others have been waiting on!
It’s time we began to practice the Humanity of God. Are you ready? Ok, Let’s Go!
