THE VOICE OF GOD
Life is a series of never-ending choices. Who? What? When? Where? How? If?
It can be very overwhelming at times and extremely challenging.
How can we be sure that we are making the correct choices? We don’t know what to do, so we seek guidance.
We talk to family, friends, peers, co-workers, neighbors, strangers, and we’ll even consult the mystics for direction. Anyone that we think who might be able to steer us in the right direction.
Some say talk to God. Now that can seem a bit scary, weird, unbelievable, and unorthodox as well as an impossible feat to carry out.
How can I talk to him?
What if I said, that quite possibly you might have already heard the voice of God, but just didn’t recognize it?
Many would say, Prove It!
Ok, here we go.
The first thing that we have to do is to demystify the voice of God. It typically isn’t the loud booming thunderous vibration that you’ve imagined. Nor is it an ear piercing shouting sound that makes the earth quake. But rather quite the opposite. The voice of God sounds like a human voice, in particular, your voice.
In fact you could have heard the voice of God before, but referred to it as intuition, a gut feeling, something that told you what to do, or when you sensed something that you were to do. In either regard, that which you heard could have very easily have been the voice of God.
There is a story of a young boy who was sent to live in a type of monastery with a priest. One night while the boy was asleep, he was awakened by someone calling his name. Samuel, Samuel, the voice called out. So Samuel got up from his bed and went to the priest to see what he needed. Samuel said, Eli I heard you call, so I came to see you. Eli said, I didn’t call you, go back to bed. Samuel returned to his bed and fell back asleep. Yet again, he was awakened by someone calling his name, Samuel, Samuel. So again he went to Eli, the priest. Eli told Samuel a second time that he had not called for him and that he should return to his bed and rest. Samuel took a while to fall back off asleep, but he did. The voice called to him again, Samuel, Samuel. Samuel went to Eli to see what he needed. Eli this time had a revelation of who might have been calling Samuel. He told Samuel when you hear the voice call you again, say, Yes Lord I hear you.
Maybe like Samuel the voice of God has called to us but we did not know that it was him.
The voice of God might sound like you, because he’s speaking to you, through you.
