HEART HEALTH - PREVENTION AND PROTECTION

Today we’ll conclude the series on Heart Health by talking about Prevention and Protection. I pray it’s been a blessing to you thus far.

We previously talked about Heart Health Awareness and Heart Health Detection. Feel free to visit for a refresher. DEVOTIONALS — Benton T. Thompson III

As shared before, there are two hearts; a Physical one which is an organ that pumps blood through our body and a Spiritual one that occupies space in the core of our soul that pumps life into our dreams.

Our Spiritual Heart, is the one that can get broken, shed tears, makes us jump for joy, may not be into a task that we committed to do, and is also the one that God wants us to pursue him with.

God too, has a Spiritual Heart. David sought to please the Heart of God. In fact, he was referred to as a man after Gods own heart. 1 Samuel 13

So how do we Prevent having a Spiritual Heart attack that will lead to a Physical Heart attack that will lead to the breaking God’s heart?

Physical Health and Mental Health both live inside Spiritual Health.

If we prevent a Spiritual Heart Attack, then we won’t have a Physical one.

Everything Physical is sourced back to the Spiritual. As a reference in Genesis “and God said” so it was.

So, what can cause a Spiritual Attack on a Spiritual Heart? The operative word here is Attack.

We as Spiritual beings, are under attack. We must remember this is not the world we are from. We only reside here temporarily. We are from the Spiritual World not this Physical World.

Imagine visiting another country, your immune system is not prepared for what you will encounter there. Your body would be under attack.

Look at how we are referred to in the book of 1 Chronicles verse 29:

“We are Strangers/foreigners here, as were our ancestors: our days on earth are but a shadow, we will not remain here.” That’s pretty telling!

Usually, our efforts are directed toward the symptom and not the source.

What used to be Psychological Warfare, is today’s Spiritual Warfare.

We are dealing with something that we can see that has been caused by something that we can't see. Physical impacted by the Spiritual!

Sometimes, we deal with what the Bible calls a “Spirit of Infirmity”

That’s when you seem to be sick for what we would say is for no good reason. But there is a reason and it’s Spiritual, Spiritual Warfare.

You’ve likely heard the saying, “fight fire with fire”. In our case we have to fight Spirit in the Spirit.

So, if the Heart is Spiritual, and the Battle is Spiritual, then guess what the Prevention must be? Yep, Spiritual. You’re so smart!

How do we fight Spiritually? We must Hear God with our Heart, the Spiritual one.

Where can we Hear him? He has provided us with nearly 800,000 of His words. They are right there in your Bible.

Here are six words we can start with:

“My Peace will guard your Heart” Philippians 4:7

How about another twenty words to add to those six.

“When you make me your focus for delight, then I the Lord, will give you the desires of your Heart” Psalm 37:4

Those are some great words to focus on. There’s more where that came from.

Here are 4 Preventive measures to keep you from having a Heart attack: first Spiritual one then Physical one.

1.    Always believe Gods Truth from Gods Word. If it’s in the Bible, you must believe it, even if you don’t understand it.

2.    Replace and remove everything that you have come to believe that contradicts Gods Word. No matter who/what the source.

3.    Be willing to believe, admit and concede that a lot of what you’ve heard and thought, but not read for yourself is likely to be a lie.

4.    Do regular checkups, at the very least weekly, to see what’s entered your Heart based upon the things you’ve said. If you hear any contaminants in your speech, get rid of them immediately.

In case you were wondering where I got these Preventative measures from just read Luke 8 for yourself, which speaks about the heart as soil.

If your Heart is not well your mouth will let you know it.

Sometimes to really examine our own hearts, we need to add prayer to help us. “Search me O Lord and show me what’s in my heart”

Once you discover the issue ask God to change it. Philippians 2:13
