KINGDOM COME - Part 3
This is our last talk on Kingdom Come, for now. I hope you have been enlightened by some of the various viewpoints that I have offered you.
Today, I want to share with you an article from a magazine that I was a columnist for in 2004. The magazine was called, Precious Times – for today’s black Christian woman, they had a dedicated section called The Brother’s Corner, for which I was a featured writer.
Here is what I wrote then, and I still believe it is relevant today.
KINGDOM or THING-DOM What are you really seeking?
“Many people are familiar with the word Kingdom. Yet most have never heard of the word “thing-dom”. Notice that both words end with the same suffix, dom. As defined in Websters dictionary, the suffix dom, indicates a state of “being”. Similarly, the word “being” is defined as existence, or life. Thus the question becomes, “Is your life about the things or the King?” Is your existence based on stuff, which can change daily, or on God who never changes?
In Matthew 6:33, we are told, “But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” The book of Matthew also recommends that we prioritize our seeking. Realizing that at times we seek jobs, houses, mates, friends, careers, churches, and organizations, here we find a golden nugget of wisdom: Seek the Kingdom of God first.
What can seeking the Kingdom of God first do for you? Simply put God is the King, or CEO of the entire universe. Nothing happens without his knowing. Everything, about everyone, must come across his desk first, so to speak. Knowing that God already knows the outcome of every choice we will ever make, it makes sense to have a conversation with Him before making any decision.
This decision-making process and dialogue with God is known as prayer. Prayer is a two-way conversation between the pray-er and God. It is not, “a thing request hot-line.” This does not mean me that we should not ask Him for things, but rather, we are to seek Him and His wisdom first before we go after those things. What happens if we pursue things first without asking God? In some cases, you might do okay, but in many cases, those choices lead to headaches and frustration. Either way, if the consultation session is still on your to-do list, or perhaps been omitted altogether, you can still check with Him now for His insight.
You can determine whether you have made an unwise choice by applying this same biblical principle. If things are being subtracted from your life instead of being added, perhaps God was not sought first. Keep in mind that you do not always have to be in need of a thing to call upon the Supplier of All things. You can even call God just because you want to hear His voice. Remember the last time you sought something before checking with the One who knows all? Well, make that time, the last time!
Pray this prayer with me: Lord we do not desire anything that is not in Your perfect will. Remind us to seek you, before we seek things. In Jesus name, amen.”
Twenty years later, those are still my same sentiments, plus now I have even more experience and more data to back up those Truths.
God won’t make us seek Him first, but we should certainly want to consider it, given his Omniscience, which means that He is all knowing.
Who else do you know, that knows everything?
He has infinite awareness of all things, in particular “those things” that we are looking for.
Every “thing” that we are seeking is under some king, but all kings are under The King of Kings, Our Father!
So ultimately, what are we to make of all this Kingdom Come talk?
As for the very familiar phrase…Thy Kingdom Come, Thy will be done, that is referring to us. We are Gods Will and We are Gods Kingdom.
The book of Romans puts it this way…
Everyone in creation is eagerly awaiting the revealing of the sons and daughters of God. Waiting to see who they really are. The world can hardly wait for what’s coming next.
KINGDOM COME is OUR clarion call to service.
The whole world is waiting on your Prince!
The whole world is waiting on you Princess!
COME KINGDOM, COME! It’s our time to represent Our Father, Our King in this world age!
God breathed us into this world, so that we can breath into our world, and change things just like he did.
This is a Thompson Truth
