TIME IS NOT OF THE ESSENCE
Many of us have heard, and been taught most of our lives, that Time is of the Essence. We’ve heard things like; Be sure to be on time. Don’t waste time. What time are we supposed to be there? What time is it? Time, time, time, that’s all you hear.
Mankind, has been infatuated with time for a long TIME, pun intended. Thousands of years ago, devices were created to measure and keep track of time. The Egyptians, the Persians and the Ancient Greeks were all obsessed with time.
What if I told you, Time doesn’t really matter?
Many would think that I am crazy. That I must have lost my mind. Just hear me out, please. When we go to God about something we usually frame it according to time, right? We need or want something done by a certain time. God when will you do this for me? God I need this done by ____. God it has been _____, and it is still not done. All of these are based on time. The problem with that thinking is that God is not time conscious like we are.
God is Eternally Existent. Allow me to say that again. God is Eternally Existent.
In fact one of the names of God is Eternal. That means that where God is, time is not relevant nor essential. Simply put, Time is Not of the Essence with God. Allow me to explain that statement a bit further. Time was created as a way to measure events that occur within a space. How long did it take to get from this from this point to that point?
That is what time tells us. Let’s look at what happened in creation; In the beginning God created by forming from nothing the heavens and the earth. Nothing existed before God, but emptiness. God existed before there were events to measure.
In fact, He created the first event. Which means God existed before Time. Therefore he is not dictated to by time. Notice how God speaks. God uses phrases like; in the beginning, in the fullness of time, for everything there is a season, everything will be made beautiful in its own time. God doesn’t use a watch, a calendar, or an almanac to answer us.
It’s all about timing, not time.
Remember when I said, time was created to measure how long it takes to get from one point to the next point? Well, God, sees the beginning and the end in the same space. No time elapses. He is the Alpha and the Omega at the same time. He is both the Beginning of all things and the End of everything at the exact same moment. God is never in a hurry because he is always on time. God operates beyond the limits of the natural laws that we live by.
God’s timing however, is perfect.
When we learn to completely count on him, then it will be God’s time.
This is a Thompson Truth!
